We finished up the series of 4 books about Obadiah, a Quaker boy who lived on Nantucket when the island was populated almost exclusively by Quakers: we made Quaker boy and girl puppets, sheep and ram puppets, and some seagull puppets based on characters in the stories.\u00a0 We learned about integrity and gender equality as well as a bit about Quaker history.\u00a0\u00a0 We made paper flowers with love messages to give to mothers for Mothers\u2019 Day.\u00a0 We hope to start our 3 Sisters Garden by first\u00a0 planting corn, with beans a few weeks later – we may need some meeting adults to help with this.\u00a0 Along the way, we will celebrate some May and June birthdays, and plan to do it with the entire meeting. We have another Dungeons & Dragons session scheduled for June 1 for the older children, with supervised Free Play for the younger children.

We are finally about to start working on “Good Trouble”, triggered by John Lewis’ statement, “Get in good trouble, necessary trouble, and redeem the soul of America”
(https:\/\/www.brookings.edu\/articles\/five-things-john-lewis-taught-us-about-getting-in-good-trouble\/<\/a>).
We want to give the FDS children a positive response to the ICE raids on undocumented people, and are thinking of putting together “comfort backpacks” for children at risk of ICE raids; they would contain coloring books, crayons, a small blanket, a stuffed animal, a puzzle, etc., and a letter from the FDS children that we will write together.\u00a0 We will teach the meeting one of our favorite songs about good trouble, “Be a Pain”! June 15 will be our final session for this year, after which we will be
on vacation for the summer.\u00a0 As usual, expect some “FDS Hikes” to be announced over the summer!

We want to thank the 6 adults who are not parents of children in FDS who have volunteered to help out occasionally at FDS!!!\u00a0 This has allowed parents to attend Meeting for Worship and become more connected to our meeting.\u00a0 We can use more helpers, though, so please let us know if you would like to come help out on the 3rd or 4th Sunday of each month, help out every other month, or choose weeks to help with based on our weekly emails about upcoming activities.\u00a0 We especially appreciate regular time commitments but know that you can be excused any time you have a conflict!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
