March 2024 Children’s Program

In February, we made valentines for our sister meeting in Cuba with the help of Felice and Melissa, made scones with Diego and Ileana, celebrated Black History Month, and celebrated the full “Snow Moon”. March 1-3, two of our children are planning to attend the NEYM Junior Yearly Meeting Retreat at Wellesley Meeting.  On March 3, in honor of Women’s History Month, we will learn about Prudence Crandall, a young Quaker woman who started the first integrated school in the U.S. in Canterbury, CT in 1832; we will also remember the many unknown enslaved Black people who managed to learn to read and write, and at great danger to themselves, secretly passed on that knowledge. On March 10, from 5:00 -7:30 pm, some of us plan to attend a family-friendly “Model Passover Seder” (https://faithma.org/event/model-seder) at Temple Beth Sholom in Framingham; this is the first event in our “Other Faiths” exploration for older children, but is something the entire family can participate in. We will fit in learning about Ramadan, which starts on March 11, and on March 25, for Purim, will tell the story of Esther, making the traditional rude noises when the villain is mentioned :-), and make hamantaschen cookies. Our annual Easter Egg Hunt will be on Sunday March 31.
