First Day School wraps up its year on June 9 with an End-of-Year strawberry-themed celebration. We’ve had so many interesting themes and activities this year, and we will be remembering our favorites as well
as planting our “3 Sisters Garden” (corn, beans, squash). After June 9, First Day School will be on vacation until the first Sunday after Labor Day, although we will sponsor occasional First Day School
Hikes on Sunday afternoons to which everyone is invited. We will announce them on FFMAnnounce.
In May, we made a spiral out of pinecones in the field around a big rock; then we took turns walking the spiral to place our stuffed animal on the rock. It was magical, and several adults mentioned how centered the children seemed when they came in at the end of worship. We each chose a “Personal Tree” on the meetinghouse grounds and learned its name and what kind of tree it was. We spent some time sharing thoughts with our personal trees. Ask a child to introduce you to their tree on June 9!
We want to thank all the adults who shared their interests and talents with us this year! It makes our community so much stronger when adults and children know each other. Early in the fall, we are planning to spend some time with Ministry and Counsel discerning how to make worship more meaningful to the children. Outdoor worship is one way, but we can’t do that all year round, and we want the children to experience centered full-meeting worship as well. We have lots of ideas for themes
and activities for the fall, and we want to invite adults to join us.
With thanks to the meeting,
Anne Anderson, FDS Coordinator, Heather Gray, FDS Curriculum Advisor, Lynn Lidz, FDS Volunteer Coordinator, FDS Committee: Anne Anderson, Heather Gray, Stephanie Hebert, Chuck Lidz, Lynn Lidz, Danielle Manzella, Amie Saulnier
and all our children!
